電流互感器是可分為測量用和保護用電流互感器。測量用電流互感器主要與測量儀表配合，在線路正常工作狀態下，用來測量線路上的電流、功率和電能等；保護用電流互感器則與繼電裝置配合，當線路發生短路、過電流等故障時，向繼電裝置供電切斷故障線路，以保護線路中的貴重設備，如發電機和變壓器等。 

Current transformer can be divided into measuring current transformer and protection current transformer. The measuring current transformer is mainly used in conjunction with measuring instrument to measure current, power and electric energy under normal working state. The protection current transformer cooperating with relay device will cut off the line in case of faults such as short circuit or over current to protect valuable equipment in the line, such as generator and transformer.
